Womyn: A Dialogue on Gender Equality

By providing direct strategic support to EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock she handles a wide variety of political and institutional matters impacting the organization and its allies. 

Kate’s career has been dedicated to electing women to office, understanding the impact of women in leadership, researching and communicating with women voters, and advocating for policies that benefit women and families. Kate joined EMILY’s List in 2011 and served as Vice President of Research, where she conducted first-of-its-kind research on the impact of women in office. She most recently also served as Executive Director of American Women, a nonpartisan research organization working to uplift the voices of women from across the country. Prior to joining EMILY’s List in 2011, Kate worked as Research Director of Gragert Jones Research, a political consulting firm where she assisted congressional campaigns with their research needs. During the 2010 cycle, she worked as a member of the rapid response team at the Democratic National Committee and coordinated research and communications at the Service Employees International Union. In 2007 and 2008, she served as a member of the Research Department on the Hillary Clinton for President campaign.

Committed to igniting change in her community, Kate co-founded a free salary negotiation program for 15,000 women with the City of DC, AAUW, and the Younger Women’s Task Force. 

Kate received her Master’s degree in Women’s Studies from George Washington University in Washington, DC and her Bachelor’s degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Previously she worked for two decades in the: (1) World Bank as economist in the gender unit, in the macroeconomics division on ending structural adjustment’s harmful impacts on women, and in the China Department on environment and agriculture projects, and (2) the Inter-American Development Bank as Coordinator of the Social Agenda Policy Group leading policy work on health and education financing, country officer for Haiti and Panama, and regional officer for Amazonia where she led a strategy to (a) end investments in roads, ranching and migration which undermined indigenous peoples and the environment, and (b) invest in social sectors and renewable resources. She Co-Chairs the Board of Promundo that promotes men’s roles in caring activities and ending gender-based violence and is on the National Council of Women’s Organizations Board and on the Advisory Councils of the Caring Economy Campaign and Jubilee USA Network that works to cancel low-income countries’ illegitimate debt. She holds political economy degrees from McGill University and the universities of Toronto and Beijing and a Georgetown University MBA.
