Through the LiveSmart wellness program, NYU offers health screenings and clinics, most at no cost, to faculty and employees. Subject to change. Registration is required.

Faculty and employees who are not authorized to work on campus at this time are encouraged to consult your primary care physician or local in-network pharmacy about a flu vaccine this fall.

Getting your flu shot at a CVS pharmacy under your NYU medical plan? Be sure to present your CVS Caremark ID card. CVS Vaccine Services is no longer an in-network provider with UnitedHealthcare.

Due to campus visitor restrictions in place, all retiree health screenings, including flu shot clinics, are indefinitely postponed. We encourage retirees to consult your primary care physician or local in-network pharmacy about a flu vaccine this fall.

A note about screenings at NYU: All screenings and measurements are conducted privately, and results released only to you. A faculty or employee NYU ID is needed to participate. For best results, consult and follow the below guidelines:

Bone Density Screening (Spring, if Offered)

It’s never too early or too late to assess your bone health. Bone density screenings are quick, painless, and non-invasive. The Achilles Express device, used in the bone density screening, utilizes an ultrasonometer which is placed around the ankle. The results are available in minutes. Bone is living tissue that is always being absorbed and replaced. When the formation of new bone occurs at a slower rate than the removal of old bone, osteoporosis occurs. Osteoporosis is the most common bone disease. It causes bones to become weak and brittle, increasing the risk of unexpected fractures.

Flu Shot Clinic (Fall, if Offered)

Over 65 years old? An optional, high-dose vaccine may be available at the clinic upon request while supplies last.
Pregnant or nursing individuals may request an alternative vaccine by completing these steps at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled vaccination: 1) Obtain a note from your physician stating that you require the alternative vaccine because you are pregnant or nursing. 2) Register for a clinic on NYUiLearn for any available time and day. 3) Forward your NYUiLearn registration confirmation email to livesmart@nyu.edu at least two business days before your scheduled vaccination, indicating your request. 4) On the day of your scheduled vaccination, bring and present your physician's note.

Heart Health Screening (Fall, Spring, if Offered)

Many people are not aware of a health issue until they are afflicted; don’t let yourself become a statistic. This screening may help to identify potential health risks such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and other chronic conditions.

This screening will include taking your blood pressure and a simple fingerstick will provide:

Total cholesterol
LDL, HDL, and triglyceride levels
Cholesterol ratio
Blood glucose

Fasting or only consuming a light meal prior to testing is recommended but not required.

Please note: Results are not considered a diagnosis – all results should be reviewed with a physician.

Skin Cancer Screening (Spring, if Offered)

More than three million people are treated for non-melanoma skin cancer each year in the United States, and one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime (source: American Academy of Dermatology). Fortunately, skin cancer is one of the most treatable cancers when detected early. A board-certified dermatologist can detect the early signs of skin cancer by conducting a thorough full body examination. Reduce your risk for skin cancer by participating in the screening.

The screening is provided in partnership with NYU Langone and performed by a board-certified dermatologist. Due to limited appointment availability, you may only be seen at your scheduled appointment time. Participants who do not arrive during their scheduled appointment time are not guaranteed to be seen. To maximize the physician’s time, please arrive five minutes prior to your appointment to check-in and complete paperwork.

Participants will be asked to remove their clothing and wear a medical gown for the examination, so please wear clothing that may be easily removed. If a participant feels uncomfortable in any manner with having a doctor perform a full-body screening, a partial-body screening may be requested. To provide timely service, participants will be requested to adjust ties and accessories outside of the examining room. If additional follow up care is recommended, every effort will be made to refer you to an in-network provider. However, it is your responsibility to confirm that your follow up provider is in-network with your insurance plan.
