Welcome to NYU Madrid! We're delighted that you'll be spending your first year with us and can't wait to greet you in Madrid. In the meantime, this page will provide useful information to help you get ready for your term abroad.
Apply for or Renew Your Passport
Please note that the Spanish government requires that your passport be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned departure from Spain. The government retains the right to deny you entry into Spain if your passport is not valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned return (through December 2023), so make sure to renew it now.
US citizens who need to renew or get a new passport may need to have it expedited. To review procedures for having a passport expedited, they should refer to this government website. They fall under the category of needing a passport for a foreign visa within 4 weeks.
Students who have already submitted their passport--without having already asked for it to be expedited--can still request expedited processing by contacting a customer service center.
Complete the Immigration Process
NYU's Office of Global Services (OGS) will be your main contact in navigating the immigration and visa process. You will find more information on the OGS student visa information and resources pages.
Please update your contact information in NYUHome to ensure that all materials get to you promptly.
NYUHome is an excellent resource which provides you with an NYU email address, information on your bursar account and access to NYU classes. You can find instructions on the NYUHome page.
Global Student Enrollment Portal
New incoming first year away students can expect to receive access to an internal Enrollment Portal. Included will be a personalized checklist and information related to housing, immigration and academics. Students will be required to complete all checklist items prior to the start of Fall semester.
